Wahbi Al-Hariri’s historical color and graphite drawings represent a unique artistic expression of Saudi Arabia’s rich heritage.
The exhibit reflects the sensitivity of Al-Hariri, who as an Arab-American artist, scholar, and architect, was profoundly interested in the documentation and preservation of the Arabian Peninsula’s cultural heritage.
The artwork in the exhibit represents years of intense research and was completed on location between the the mid-1960s and early 1990s.
The exhibit is an expanded version of the collection that was first shown at the Smithsonian in 1984. The updated show includes fifty graphite, watercolor, and pastel drawings depicting the architectural heritage of Saudi Arabia and historic monuments of Washington, D.C.
